Company Description

Driven by success

The manufacturing of agricultural machinery in Törökszentmiklós began in 1848, initiated by blacksmith János Lábassy. His high-quality products, such as plows, harrows, and hoes, received numerous accolades and awards at both local and national exhibitions, meeting the standards of the time. These tools were primarily purchased by the local peasantry. The enterprise, led by the founding owner for nearly 50 years until 1896, remained a small-scale operation. Its success was evident by the turn of the century, achieving such a technical level that, in addition to producing modern agricultural machines, it actively participated in manufacturing components for the world-renowned FORD T-model.

In 1918, under the leadership of his successors, Alajos Fehér and István Umbach, the plant came into the ownership of the Szolnok County treasuries and operated as "Lábassy Agricultural Industry and Machinery Factory Co." until 1942.

The first written evidence of iron casting dates back to this period, from 1912.

In 1916, an oil-fired iron smelting Ungár furnace was commissioned, which was replaced in 1922 by a cupola furnace with a capacity of 1 ton/hour.

In 1942, the corporation transferred the factory to the ownership of EMAG Iron and Steel Works. The plant's production increased, and the number of employees rose to nearly 200.

In 1949, the factory was nationalized under the name "Törökszentmiklósi Agricultural Machinery Factory National Enterprise," which first became a unit of the Budapest Agricultural Machinery Factory in 1963, and then from 1976 continued as the Szolnok Agricultural Machinery Factory.

During this period, in 1959, it was among the first in Hungary to produce spheroidal graphite cast iron. The number of employees exceeded 500 at that time, and in the 1960s, the factory complex expanded. Consequently, in 1968, the agricultural machinery manufacturing activity and, in the mid-1980s, the Forklift Repair Plant relocated to new premises, leaving only the Foundry at the original site.

Following the regime change, the company underwent restructuring. In 1992, Mezőgép was transformed into a corporation, continuing its operation under the name "Agricultural Machinery Manufacturing and Service Corporation Törökszentmiklós Plant," while selling off individual sites as part of privatization.

In 1997, the factory complex on Dózsa György Road was acquired by the CLAAS Group, and the factory was subsequently renamed CLAAS Hungária Kft.

Efforts to sell the Foundry were also made, but these initially did not come to fruition. A significant milestone in the recent history of the Foundry occurred on February 1, 2001, when the Törökszentmiklós Foundry Industrial, Commercial, and Service Limited Liability Company was established to operate the Foundry. Initially, the site, along with all its production equipment, was leased from Szolnoki MEZŐGÉP Rt., but it has since been purchased. Today, it operates under the name TM Foundry, continuing production at the original site while maintaining its workforce. Current Operations: Over the years, the foundry has continually evolved and now operates with modern, state-of-the-art equipment. Induction furnaces, molding and cleaning machines, and technology compliant with environmental protection standards ensure that the foundry fully meets contemporary requirements.
